FUEL

We start with a conversation around your situation, discuss your goals, your knowledge, your current understanding, I then ask you to record a 7 day food diary, which I assess and use to do a deep dive into your current food preferences, energy intake, macro and micronutrient intake.

Following the food diary, we have a chat through my findings and discuss where things are good and what could use a boost or a readjustment. This is a high level review and serves to build your understanding of nutrition. Think of me as a guide, I aim to transfer my knowledge to empower you to make the best decisions for your goals.

What we focus on: 

What to eat: Diet quality. Through meal and snack suggestions, we want to ensure what you consume will meet your requirements. No fads, just evidence based recommendations, based on science.

When to eat: Nutrient Timing, so you’re fueled and ready to undertake your training, know what to eat during each session and what to have lined up for the rest of the day to help you build back stronger, fitter and faster.

Why to eat: By expanding your understanding of how nutrition supports training, I will help you make the right decisions.

Specifics: Race day nutrition, how to get the most out of your event by nailing your nutrition in the days leading up to, the morning of and the duration of your event, from Ironman tris, to multi day cycling trips, to half marathons, nutrition can make or break your performance.

For many triathletes who didn’t take up swimming as youngsters, swimming can be the most difficult discipline to improve. My approach is skill acquisition followed by fitness. 

 

Swimming is a complex movement pattern and requires practise and repetition to coordinate timing, body alignment and movement pattern which will see your lap times and race times tumble.

 

Built on the foundation of body position and alignment, maintained during the breath and followed by generating propulsion, I can help you take your swim to the next level. 

 

Drills and sets are designed to work on specific aspects of your swimming in isolation and then bring them together in the full stroke.

For triathletes, the bike is where the majority of your race is spent. Getting faster on the bike will have the biggest impact on your race times.


My approach is designed to transform your bike leg into a strength. When and how to use testing, how to apply the Critical Power model to get you training in the right zones, for the right duration on the right days. Blending the training intensity distribution across the season to help you get to race day in peak fitness and ready to perform.


Big miles, microbursts, threshold, Zone 2, all have a place in a well rounded plan, the devil is in the detail of how to distribute these intensities.

Whether you’re looking to hone your run off the bike in your big race for the season or looking to PB in your next goal marathon, I can help you achieve your success.

Working from a demand-led application of training, I’ll work with you to establish the demands of your target event and put in place the building blocks to get you to the finish line in the best possible time. 

​

Identifying where to spend your training hours is key. We’ll look at run efficiency, and how to improve it, we’ll look at substrate utilisation, and how to improve it, we’ll look at the metabolic determinants of success, and how to improve them and the overarching factor of Critical Speed and how to improve it.

Advanced Tech - TrainingPeaks and SENPRO

We use top of the line technology like the TrainingPeaks and SENPRO software to help you meet your fitness goals. This software allows for real-time tracking, monitoring and feedback to ensure that you are on track. With direct linking to Garmin, Apple and other tech, and two way comms, we have everything you need to succeed.

Training plans are delivered through TrainingPeaks, a user friendly, end to end coach:athlete communication platform. 

TrainingPeaks allows for run sessions to be delivered to your Garmin or other running watch so you can follow along in real time, bike sessions to be delivered to a Garmin, Zwift, TrainerRoad or other platform so you can follow the session indoors or out, and your swim sets to be on your wrist in the pool, additionally, Strength and Conditioning sets with video demonstrations of how to perform the exercises are communicated through notes.  Alongside training, TrainingPeaks facilitates the delivery of Nutrition Notes,  your guide on how best to eat to support training.

SENPRO is the nutrition app I use. Where appropriate, I use SENPRO to deliver meal plans targeted to your daily needs. Macro and micronutrient balanced plans for athletes looking for this level of support. Fully detailed, weighed recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, getting you to race day in peak form.
